RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted May 30, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 30, 2021 Due to COVID restrictions you could not get off at Weybourne, which was a pity as the engine shed is there.

Nice weather again today but much cooler by tea time. Back in the van now with a bottle of Merlot on the go awaiting a take away . Cheers, Ade. PaulG
Adrian I'm pleased you enjoyed your trip and sorry the model railway at Holt was not open, but its very much "work in progress" and currently we are waiting for Train Stop auto sensors from USA. A couple of photos of the layout and hopefully on your next visit we will be open. Paul

RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted May 31, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 31, 2021 A lovely thread with excellent pics, and indicative of a fine line well worth visiting. But why in rag-tag-and-bobtail Wheeltappers? I suggest asking the Mods to move it to Preservation, where it certainly deserves to be?
Nick Gough
We travelled a couple of days after you Adrian, although we started at the Holt end of the line. The loco and rolling stock were the same. A plethora of signals at Holt: As we waited for the train to arrive: Our outward journey was in the second compartment in the brake third: The windmill on the way to Weybourne: Where I spotted this little beauty in the yard: Before arrival at Sheringham:
Nick Gough
At Sheringham we had to disembark and trek right round the station, and level crossing, to the entrance for the opposite platform. We were rather glad that the weather was fine and not how it was for most of May. After checking in again, and following cleaning of the train, we were allowed back over to platform two where the train was ready for departure: This time we were in the end compartment of the third lavatory open: However, the NVR has fitted extra wooden partitions in this carriage to separate it into individual compartments. Mabel took advantage of this to find a nice secure, confined spot to settle in for the return journey: The windmill - again approaching Weybourne: This seems to be visible, from the train, for most of the journey!

Nick Gough
Another look at the third lavatory open - this time with the bogies and underframe visible: The other two non-gangwayed carriages. A full third: And composite: The loco ready to depart for Sherringham again:
Nick Gough
A quick look around at Holt before leaving. The weighbridge and hut: Goods shed and loading platform: Unfortunately the museum inside wasn't open that day. Crane: A rather hot goods van: I understand the whole of Holt station has been created new, with some of the buildings moved from elsewhere. The model railway wasn't open to the public but it was possible to have a quick look through the open upper doorway to see a couple of trains running inside. All in all an enjoyable day out.

That's correct. The site of the original Holt station which was close to the town centre wasn't available as the town bypass had been built on that location. They had to build a new one a little nearer to Sheringham, about a mile from Holt. The museum (when it's open!) is well worth a visit - has a number of interesting signalling exhibits among other railwayana.
