alan
For a bit of interest on Outwell Village I am adding to the motive power fleet, a Y1 Sentinel shunter. This is a Nu-Cast kit designed for a Tenshodo motor bogie, but personally I am not keen on these so I decided to fit a Black Beetle type. This does mean however there is some adjustments to be made to the mounting of the motor. This is how I have gone about it. The picture below shows the mounting plate that comes with the kit. It is not possible to use this, even with a lot of reshaping so I made a new one from brass. I bent the plate to give the correct ride height, and then soldered it to the footplate. Will post more updates when more work is completed

Will post more updates when more work is completed I like the look of this idea I gather it is OO 4mm what are the correct wheel spacingings for the correct motor bogie and the wheel sizes for the Y1/Y3 as i think fiting this seems a realy good idea
DVLR Dave
There is some info her: http://www.lner.info/locos/Y/y1y3.shtml which indicates that the wheelbase was 7 feet and the wheels 2ft 6 inches, so the wheelbase in 4mm would be 28mm with 10mm wheels
jwealleans
Be careful when you assemble it - I built mine around a BullAnt with 28mm wheelbase but when I put the kit together (following the moulded on recesses and lines for the axleboxes, etc) I ended up with a 1mm discrepancy. The kit wheelbase was too short. Check the kit against the beetle before you solder anything together.
alan
Yes that is correct, wheel base is indeed 7ft with 2ft 6 inch wheels. As Johnathan has mentioned you do have to adjust the axlebox so it lines up with the wheel centres of the motor bogies.
Poor Old Bruce
Am I correct in thinking that the Sentinel wheelbase was adjustable (like a bike) to accomodate slack in the drive chains? So the 7ft wb is only 'nominal'.
Pugsley
Yes, that's correct, even the much later chain drive diesel versions were the same.
alan
The finnished Sentinel running for the first time on the layout, at the Holmfirth show a couple of weekends back. It performed very well all weekend, and I think I made the right choice in fitting the Black Beetle. Time will tell.
