Parallel Patriot liveries

 Does anybody know if any of the parallel boilered Patriots received post war straw lined LMS black livery?

Bear with me I'll try and find if there are any in books such as the Essery and Jenkinson - Illustrated History books.

 

I have a feeling there would have been more than one repainted in three or so years. I think I've seen one in the 1946 livery but with BRITISH RAILWAYS lettering.

I've just checked in Jenkinson's "Locomotive liveries of the LMS". This is by no means definitive, but a very useful resource & based on photos.

The following parallel's are listed as carrying 1946 black:

I rather like 1946 black. I also like wartime plain black, but I can understand why both are less popular than red or green & therefore less likely to appear in RTR form.

I've got two, a Bachmann one and the remains of an old Hornby version. Both are BR lined black. Just a coincidence that was the livery I got.

 

One was the old Hornby Lady Godiva and the Bachmann one was the Collectors Club edition.

 

I reckon they suit black.

Unlike other older Hornby models, when the Patriot model went though the changes of moving production to China and fitting better scale wheels, and then conversion to loco drive the bodyshell has never been altered so you can fit the body of an early parallel patriot to the latest Railroad loco drive chassis. I don't think it will fit the super detail rebuilt Patriot chassis though. The B17 for example you couldn't do that.

Hornby, Bachmann, Mainline and Airfix have done livery that version their LMS 4-6-0s that were in LMS straw lined black with the exception of the parallel boiled Patriot. Odd that really.

I agree that it is strange.

My Jubilee was a Bachmann early BR version, so it had the LMS lining & BR number/tender markings. It was easy to backdate it.
