dave75
New to DCC, Ive rigged a test plank up with Jmri. Now l want to run a Bachmann 105 DMU So I can see I need a 4 function chip for the power car. What do I put in the trailer car to control the directional lights? Thanks dave
smokebox
You can use a function only decoder (if you can find one) or another normal decoder with at least 2 functions. Using the same type of decoder in both units is pretty normal.
RMweb Premium Izzy Posted October 13, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 13, 2021 (edited) Don't think you need anything other than a 2-function for both cars. The interior lights come on when the lights are chosen irrespective of direction. Will double check to be certain. But I have just got a 2-function in the trailer according to my Decoder Pro roster - it's sound fitted with a Zimo MX645 in the power car, but this required surgery to install. Be warned although the fittings are 8-pin the space for decoders is very small. Really need micro decoders but these are mainly 6-pin so some cutting is usually involved somewhere. I did use 8-pin Zimo MX600's before the sound install in both cars. IIRC you do need to reverse direction on the trailer. Gave them both the same address of course. WIMorrison
LAIS make an excellent function only decoder. https://laisdcc.com/decoders/ you can find several places selling it for around £10.
RMweb Premium Izzy Posted October 14, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 14, 2021 Just to confirm, the interior lights are part of the basic lighting and not on a separate function No. So only a basic 2-function decoder needed. Hope this helps.
