Whetstone Bridge
After 3 years back in the hobby, I have built up a vast collection of locos and rolling stock (early 80s to early 90s). Still no HST rake though because I’m completely befuddled as to which power cars should go with which coaches. Could someone suggest a list of Hornby product codes to put together to make prototypical rakes in blue/grey and executive liveries? (One rake of each) Thanks
RMweb Gold stovepipe Posted October 21, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 21, 2021 Sadly, it's not particularly straightforward. There have been several iterations of the scale length Mk3, with clear windows, tinted windows and tinted windows with lighting, released before and since the new HST was released in 2008. Most are Hornby tooling, but some have Lima origins - one or both of the buffet and the TGS types I think. Have a look through the model rail database, look for runs of coaches starting R4157, R4366, R4444, R4594, R4633 for B&G, and R4294, R4314, R4631 and R4851 for IC. Good luck finding any for sale though! 2

In hindsight, assigning an “R” number to the whole rake, and postfixing the coach number to the code would make it easier, but it would break the mould of independant skus per coach, which is easier for their stock control but harder for us.
Whetstone Bridge
I feared as much. Hence why I’ve been putting it off! A bit of research, a spreadsheet of products then trial & error looks like the best option. Thanks for the guidance.
scouse889
The following pairs of power cars and coaches were released at the same time, so colour match and enable full trains to be assembled: Blue/grey (Eastern) R3269 power cars, R4595 TGS, R4634/R4634A/R4634B/R4634C TS, R4594 TRSB, R4633/R4633A TF Blue/grey (Western - 40th Anniversary Set) R3403 power cars, R4732/R4732A TS, R4729 TRSB, R4730/R4730A TF - need to duplicate the TS and TRSB coaches for a full rake. Executive R3271 power cars, R4593 TGS, R4632/R4632A/R4632B/R4632C TS, R4592 TRSB, R4631/R4631A TF These are all the scale length coaches and the super detail power cars. There has only been this one release of the executive SD power cars and scale length coaches, but there are other versions of both the SD power cars and scale length coaches available in blue/grey livery. Swallow is also a rather complicated story unfortunately! Edited October 22, 2021 by scouse889
