We had done the ECML to catch one of the last Deltic workings on the Plymouth - Edinburgh. Late running stranded us so we did Forth and Tay bridges behind a McRat. Train home had a Class 81 over Beattock and Shap then Class 40 took over at Preston due to engineering works and diversion via Manchester. Pre- Windsor Link so thrashing through a silent Victoria and taking a run at Miles Platting bank with 16 Mk1s (incl. 7 sleepers) at 4am on a still frosty morning. Didn't get much sleep on that trip.
