RMweb Gold john new Posted January 15, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 15, 2022 Also on ch 328 on Sky. Varied reviews on IMDB and a 6.6 overall score. Reviews suggest some good scenic shots, perhaps let down for modern viewers by the 1948 dialogue. I’ve put it on to record as I don’t recall seeing it before. RMweb Premium 31A Posted January 15, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 15, 2022 Jack Warner plays a good engine driver! 3
LMS2968
The railway scenes are pretty good although the motive power changes constantly during the journeys; good for filling in an ABC though! 1
Rugd1022
Related trivia - during the filming Jack Warner tripped and fell into the turntable pit inside Willesden Roundhouse and had a permanent limp from then on. 1
JOHNMCDRAGON
In the film Jack Warner was driving a GWR Hall class locomotive. It was called Evening Hall. (Old joke for which I claim no originality). 1 1
RMweb Gold john new Posted January 23, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 23, 2022 (edited) Finally watched my recording. You forget just how filthy everything was through the 40s and 50s. Plot a bit naff but filled with nostalgia for me as a child of the 50s. Out of curiosity would the coaches used in the wreck scene have been models (I assume yes) - Exleys? RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted January 23, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 23, 2022 (edited) I like the brief shot which show the railway at the back of Jack Warner's house - the GWML immediately east of Ladbroke Grove signal box. I wonder how they finished up with that, especially as it was in the heart of GWR recruitment land and the front of the house was up near Willesden Edited January 23, 2022 by The Stationmaster
