EddieB
I don't think that this has been posted before. The whole video (about the procedure to reverse Amtrak passenger trains into the Tampa terminus) is interesting, but I was intrigued by the "Jump Frog" at the switch (about 9 1/2 minutes in) - something I haven't seen before (prototype or model). 1
RMweb Gold simon b Posted February 25, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 25, 2022 I watched the same video, certainly something I'd not heard of before but in use for some time apparently. There are a few places that have diamond crossings built in a similar way.
RMweb Premium newbryford Posted February 28, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 28, 2022 There are similar types of up and over crossings at diamonds. I think the term used is a "fly-through", where the main rail on the heavily used route isn't gapped and the secondary route is raised up and over in a similar manner to the jump frog and it runs along the flanges. Near Alabama Junction in Savannah. (Apparently it's not a place to go when it's dark or on your own - but I found that out afterwards.........)
