RMweb Gold russ p Posted March 12, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 12, 2022 Whilst I know they won't be 100% accurate I'm converting some Lima sealions to walrus. Does anyone know if they were ever gulf red and know of and pictures of them? Also is there a halfords colour close to gulf red, I know their red primer is a deep red Cheers
RMweb Gold Enterprisingwestern Posted March 12, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 12, 2022 I can only speak for myself, but I find the various red/red oxide primers, when suitably weathered, can pass for brickwork/bauxite/gulf red/maroon coach undercoat amongst others. Butler Henderson
Gulf Red seems judging by photos to be a livery that faded so any shade tending towards pink would probably to be correct at some date. 1

Some of the Dogfish and Catfish were newly built in Gulf Red - the 1960 and 61 builds. https://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/brcatfishzev/e786cbc9 Some remained in the livery into 1994 - it darkened more than went pink (that was Railfreight red!) Bartlett, Paul W. (1992) Gulf red - a nearly forgotten BR livery. Modellers' Backtrack vol. 2 (part 4) pp 184 - 188. Paul 1 1
