Gee Vee
I am installing DCC Concepts dc point motors on my layout. All is good but they constantly make a humming sound. Is this normal? Concerned motor in straining and will burn out. Advice welcome
dpgibbons
Humming can be caused by power supply fluctuations, and is worse at higher voltages. Try hooking up a 9V battery and see if that improves things. Then get a regulated 12V or better still a 9V DC switched power supply.
Sol
Why not contact DCC concepts direct ? https://www.dccconcepts.com/contact-us/
Matt
My tortoise motors hummed and I wondered if an issue. I was told they should hum a bit but how do you define what is normal? I was powering off a Hornby track controller and tried switching to an old laptop charger instead and hum gone. Something to do with the shape of voltage supplied someone told me (I’m prob misunderstanding) but anyway I think some power supplies are not suitable for this use. What you want is a REGULATED power supply. The old laptop PS will be regulated, which is why silent. 2
