rogerdee
I have read about spraying your ballast with some IPA and water mix before gluing, could meths be used instead?. Would this work?.
brossard
Why not use IPA? It is readily available at pharmacies where I live and cheap. My understanding is meths (methanol) is quite toxic (and I've never seen it) and atomizing it could make that worse. The "meths" used for methfix transfers is actually methyl hydrate. Adding a couple of drops of dish soap to water has the same effect. Standing by to be corrected. John Edited June 23, 2022 by brossard
meil
Meths (properly Methylated spirit) is basically Ethanol to which Methanol has been added together with Pyridine (which gives it its purple colour and nasty taste) to prevent it being drunk and so can be sold without any duty being applied. It smells so that might put you off but it will work. The Meths for Methfix transfers is the same stuff. If you can get it I would use IPA. KeithMacdonald
@rogerdee - You had me worried. When I first read the title, I thought you must be getting desperate if you are drinking meths instead of India Pale Ale (IPA). 1 hour ago, rogerdee said: I have read about spraying your ballast with some IPA and water mix before gluing Well, OK, not so desperate perhaps. But I was still confused why anyone would spray ale or beer on their ballast. It took me quite a few seconds to realise we're talking glues.
Michael Hodgson
I don't drink meths. I prefer a pint of IPA. 1
