Because Italian - Train and Shop

I'm Australian and going for a holiday to Italy and Switzerland next month.  When I visit a country I like to bring back a H0 scale model of a train I have ridden on.  So I am looking for a good quality manufacturer (I don't want the old Lima quality) who makes models that might interest me and a shop preferably in Rome.

Any suggestions for either?

My last visit to Rome was more than 20 years ago, there are a number of train shops but i do not remember which one was the most interesting:

Recent Lima and RivaRossi are much better than previously.

ACME makes the most detailed Italian H0 trains now: http://www.acmetreni.it/index.php/en/news

It's a pity that their website doesn't show their full range.  I think I will be riding on a "DMU" on some of the rural and cross-country lines so hope to find a model of such.

Thanks, Mark

Just got back from hols in Italy so sorry if too late. Most passenger trains in Italy are now formed by modern stock, from high speed trains to local regional lines. Most of the high speed trains are available RTR in HO as are the modern Minuetto (diesel and electric versions) and their successor ETR425 units, both of the latter from V-Trains although both currently out of production.

Regional trains are also in some cases worked by Class E464 locos and medium distance coaches in push-pull model with a pilota. There is also a diesel version worked by Class D445 locos around Sienna for example. Models of these trains are made by Lima and V-Trains are as far as I am aware versions are currently available.

Most of the other modern units have not yet been produced in model form.

There are a couple of model shops in Rome, one close to Termini station, but I have never used them so don’t know how much stock they have.
