RMweb Gold 97406 Posted February 6 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 6 With 3 Accurascale 31s on order, I'll have Class 31 well and truly represented in the light of the announcement from Bachmann today. I'll still be keeping hold of my Lima one which still has its 3 pole pancake motor which runs well. Who needs DCC sound?

The 31 will be getting a stay alive fitted as I found a couple of places where it stalled. Just added one to a Railroad HST and what a difference it makes. RMweb Gold 97406 Posted February 14 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 14 The lighting at the diesel depot end of the layout was a little dingy and I spotted these lighting towers at the Donny show so I replaced one of the lamp posts with one from Layouts4U. I have to be careful installing things like this as I don't want them getting too much in the way of the locos when taking pictures. 16

RMweb Gold 97406 Posted February 15 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 15 Chopper Squad! One other class that wasn't well represented was Class 20 where I had 2 knackered old Bachmann examples. I have recently acquired 3 of the latest models with sound and apart from a frustrating problem getting them to run together in a consist, they're smashing models and having a pair whistling in full chat sounds great (both assigned the same DCC address to get around the consist problem for now). The older 20s will remain as unpowered ones which will be used as the second loco when the layout allows for decent trains to be hauled.

A bit like classes 81-85 being 'Roarers'.
woodenhead
87s were exotic to me in the 1970s. Had to go to Crewe to see them in bulk, or that’s how I remember it; but someone will come along and remind me it wasn’t all 86/2s (plus the 81-85)

I also remember being fascinated by the AEI crossarm pantographs and the noise the locos made, not to mention the really loud ones with 3 windscreens which I eventually identified as the 81s to 85s. I also remember getting electric shocks of Mum off the 25kV whilst standing on the platform waiting for the train, presumably through electromagnetic induction from the OHL! Happy days!
RMweb Gold 97406 Posted March 12 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 12 (edited) The FreightConnection 90 project is go. A secondhand Freightliner example has been stripped to its lurid green plastic and will become 90130 in Sybic livery. Will I manage to reassemble the pan or not? I have a Heljan BW one on standby if I don't manage it! The one on the right will become the RFD one, 90022. Edited March 12 by 97406

RMweb Gold 97406 Posted March 20 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 20 Whilst the layout extension is some time off, and will need the existing layout moving along the wall by a couple of feet, I have started collecting wagons, with some 21T minerals and HUO hoppers from Accurascale. I've just completed weathering the bodies giving rise to a short train for the 1985 Crewe Station remodelling. I'll go back and dull down the wheels a touch, methinks, but you get the general idea.

RMweb Gold 97406 Posted March 23 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 23 (edited) Accurascale 37066 (converted from 37027) heads off-shed. It has the correct single rivetted boiler compartment roof section courtesy of a swap. The interchangeability of parts is one of the great things about this model. Especially the 16 wheeler 👍 Cheers TT100 Diesels The split box 40 is my favorite loco, and I just managed to catch 40135 in departmental service when I really got into railways in 1985, numbered as the eponymous 97406. I also have 40139 and 40143 in the fleet. I also like the flush fronted refurbished 37/5s and 37/7s but I’m glad they didn’t do all of them!
