kirley
Looking forward to this. MPD’s - there were so many different types, I’ve seen drawings of the following series 36- 39, 40 – 41, 46 – 48, 49 -53, 54 – 55, 57 – 62, 63 – 65, + 6 trailer car types. 63 – 65 were double ended so which of the other series did you go for? RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted November 2, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 2, 2022 (edited) Hi Kieran, These sides are for the double cab MPDs 63/64/65. The plan is to do the blue/maroon and maroon/white(ish) liveries. These were specially commissioned from Allen and took over a year to come to fruition so going down the same route with the earlier MPDs may take some time. Not to say that wont happen though... Allen has told me that he intends to add these MPD sides to his general sale range. Cheers Darius Edited November 2, 2022 by Darius43 Typo as pointed out by Kirley
kirley
Thanks Darius, I take it 54 is a typo and should read 64. I used Black Beetle motors in mine, what power source are you using? I never added interiors, maybe your build will spur me to go back and finish them. 5
Hunslet 102
Looking forward to seeing these builds. The sides are on Worsley Works site already!
RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted November 20, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 20, 2022 (edited) Construction commenced using a Dapol 60’ LMS coach as the base model. The, interior, glazing, wheels and couplings are discarded. The raised detail on the roof and coach sides is removed and sanded down. The moulded coach floor is removed apart from at the ends. Etched sides removed from the fret and offered up to the coach body. The etched sides are longer than a scale 60’ so I trimmed 3mm off each end to make them just shorter than the Dapol coach. This allows the ends to be sanded round. Cheers Darius Edited November 20, 2022 by Darius43
RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted November 20, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 20, 2022 Holes cut in coach bodyside to enable flush glazing of new sides. Sides glued to coach body. Etched cab ends laminated to 1mm thick plasticard. Coach ends “thickened” at the roof joint to enable a rounded roof profile to be sanded. Sides and cab ends in place. RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted November 20, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 20, 2022 Question. It’s hard to find clear photos of the bogies of MPDs 63-65. Were they like first generation BR DMUs or similar to the earlier MPDs? Cheers Darius
RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted November 21, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 21, 2022 Roof attached and cab/roof edges filled and sanded round. Door hinges and handles attached. The gangways are temporarily attached using black tack. Cheers Darius

RMweb Gold Robert Shrives Posted November 23, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 23, 2022 I do like the walkway on the roof - Is it a hand scored or strip and separate sides? Looking good and if world stops rushing around I might be able to follow in your foot steps! Viz bogies they do look BR dmu esk best phot I found was in the small spotting books of irish stock - vehicle 63 IIRC. Robert
RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted November 23, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 23, 2022 Hi Robert, I scored the walkway onto 0.5mm thick plasticard using an Olfa P-Cutter and cemented plasticard edges to it before affixing it to the roof. Is that the Oliver Doyle spotting book? I have it somewhere. Cheers Darius
RMweb Gold Robert Shrives Posted November 23, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 23, 2022 Darius, Yes OD same in the two issues I have. I wonder how much use the walkway got - it would have been slippery with oil with in weeks of entering traffic and no oil lamps to drop in the roof I wonder what it was intended to aid. The toilet tank filler pipes were low level after all. Robert
RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted November 23, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 23, 2022 Dapol coach chassis modified to accept a Hornby DMU motor bogie and trailing bogie. Test fit of coach body to chassis. I still have to fit the chassis undergibbons. Cheers Darius 2 1
RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted November 24, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 24, 2022 Dunpaintin. I added undergibbon parts “hewn” from spare MTK white metal DMU undergibbon parts - suitably cleaned up before fixing. Cheers Darius 2 2
