One decoder, two motors

I have been revisiting a few projects from years ago, and found a Hornby class 25 which was fitted with a second motor bogie. The wheels were swapped out for plain ones without traction tyres. However the motors ran at different speeds. I'm contemplating fitting CD drawer motors at both ends.

Would it be better to wire the motors in parallel or series? It will be powered by either a Zimo MX600 or a Gaugemaster Ruby decoder, whichever gives the best results.

I tried this with a Class 56 twin ringfield many years ago. The problem was getting both motors to kick off together, else one dragged its heels until there was enough voltage to overcome stiction when it would take off like a rat up a pipe. The option was one decoder per motor and adjust CV2 of each decoder to get a clean start.  In the end I binned the project.
