DCC/DC Change over switch

I must be missing something here. If the entire layout is to be either DC or DCC then a very simple and cheap switch is all that is wanted. A 2-pole, double throw latching, with centre off, will do what you need. Switching from one to the other goes via 'off', so no risk of the two systems clashing, which can be expensive. The output to the layout is from the centre contacts, the inputs are on either side.

If you want that same switch then see RS 134-1144.

However, as Oldddudders says, all you need is a DPDT switch. The 9v supply to the switch is only to illuminate the LEDs.

If you want LEDs attach to the track output.

If I may come in here, can I ask please is the layout 2 or 4 tracks.

Thd reason I ask is that it would easily accommodate dc & dcc locomotives better if the layour is built with 4 tracks, 2 would be for dc only and the other 2 for dcc only.

But that introduces a new risk. Any connection, due to derailment or simply a metal tool left across the tracks, could cause electrical connection between the DC and the DCC. This can instantly zap some of the electronics in the DCC system and cost real money.

Not recommended.
