"Because... beautiful" Liliput Rheingold carriages

According to my stockbook these are among the last model trains of any sort I ever purchased, having picked them up at the Tring & District MRC annual exhibition in May 1999 despite knowing nothing about the prototype nor having any real interest in the continental scene. I'd always liked pullman cars and these were similar enough.

something about the style of these is so amazing and the quality of the models - which I suspect were already quite old when i found them 24 years ago - is top notch.
Considering disposing of as I have no need for them but no idea if any demand exists in the UK. If any reader is interested please let me know

You can also try the more specialised Auction houses for an estimate. You are probably closest to Excalibur in Kings Langley, but there's SAS and Vectis as well that routinely have trains auctions.

Oh, I dont think they're hugely valuable - very much doubt it in fact -

A lovely set. I have an unboxed set that I bought from a UK seller via the Devil's Toybox  maybe 8 years ago . I think I paid about a tenner apiece plus UK P&P. As DenysW says they fetch a fair bit more in Germany.

a set along with an S3/6 in the 80's and early 90's when they seemed crazily expensive relative to my means at the time

The current Marklin/Trix set is £995 from Gaugemaster. Some things do not change.

there's a couple of these Liliput sets floating around in gebraucht stores currently. I think around EUR150 retail.  They don't sell as fast as the Liliput CIWL coaches from the same time.

Current issues from MaTrix and Brawa are packed with latest technological bells and whistles, depending on the version.

Just as every DRG collector needs a few black and reds, a Rheingold set is also compulsory.

I hope pulled by either a Bavarian S3/6 or at least a powerful UK outline pacific.

The Bavarian S3/6 never pulled the Rheingold; when the Rheingold was pulled by an "S3/6 type" this was already a Deutsche Reichsbahn Baureihe 18. My Rheingold train is also not correct (but because beautiful).

Regards

Fred

There is a BR23 available to haul the five coach Rheingold set, but as this rake is too long to run round at the terminus it typically is worked back to the fiddle yard by a British outline loco.
