dave_long Posted July 1, 2010 Share Posted July 1, 2010 Hi all I was wondering whether it was possible to prime over and then add a new coat of paint over a factory finish? The plan is to turn VI 47401 LL blue into 47099 LL railfreight grey, now the ends are already yellow and have the black window surounds and the yellow can be toned down with weathering so I'd rather not do a whole respray. Would it be wise to over paint or is it possible to part strip a loco? rgds Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
RBE Posted July 1, 2010 Share Posted July 1, 2010 I've done this before and had no problems. as long as you rub it down a bit and remove any edges that would show up through the new finish. You have to expect any changes in colour on the factory finish to give a raised line once sprayed over. However if you rub it down before hand this can be avoided.
