SteveyDee68
In Model Rail’s bookazine “How To Build A Model Railway”, George Dent writes an article describing how he elevated the cheap Hornby clip together diesel depot into a structure comparable to a Bachmann Scenecraft offering. It is an interesting, informative and inspiring article. In it, George mentions that he commissioned etched windows from PH Designs to replace the acetate windows in the Hornby kit, and these really do improve the model incredibly. However, he didn’t mention the cost of them anywhere in his article; anyone thinking of following his upgrade instructions should be aware that the fret is available for £50 direct from PH Designs, upon enquiry (it is not part of their range). I’ve picked up a second hand Hornby example (complete) off eBay for £12; those examples missing their windows can be had for as little as £5. As much as the fret elevates the building into “super detail” territory, I am pondering “proportionality” … it is one thing to “gild a lily” - is it proportionate to “gild a dandelion”? RMweb Gold Enterprisingwestern Posted April 6, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 6, 2023 At that sort of price I'd be tempted to build my own from plastiglaze and fine strip, it would be an improvement at least. Mike.
