NYMR- Lineside fire and diesel running only.

Recommended Posts

On 25/05/23, there was a lineside fire at Ellerbeck.

Three services were affected by the incident: the 12:00pm from Pickering, the 12:35 from Whitby and the Moorland Pullman service.

The 12.00 from Pickering returned to the station and then formed a shuttle from Pickering to Levisham. The 12.35 from Whitby was forced to terminate at Grosmont and the Moorlander ran a revised route from Grosmont to Goathland.

Because of the incident, the railway is now running diesels only until the weather changes.

The diesel locos currently being used on services are Class 25 D7628 Sybilla, Class 31 31128 Charybdis and Class 37 37264. It is expected that Class 47 47077 North Star and the DMU will be used at some point.

Steam returned to the railway yesterday but only between Grosmont and Whitby. 5428 Eric Treacy hauled all the services to and from Whitby coming on and off the trains at Grosmont with 31128, 37264 and D7628 working on the rest of the line. It'll probably be the same again today.
