AMD8806
Hi all, Did at any point during the NSE era did they paint girder bridges any particular colour? Or for that matter was there any consistent colour scheme? Thanks in advance,
RMweb Premium uax6 Posted October 8, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 8, 2023 The underpass bridge here at Littleport was painted in the dark NSE blue, but I'm guessing that was because it is right next to the station... From memory no other bridges down here were repainted in any NSE colours, being left in grey/rust. Andy G
RMweb Gold phil_sutters Posted October 8, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 8, 2023 One from 1991 at Oxford - http://www.ipernity.com/doc/philsutters/26435973/in/album/871204 - boring pale grey. One the other hand, nearby in 1990 - http://www.ipernity.com/doc/philsutters/26436881/in/album/871204 - could be a pale blue - unless Dad's colour print was a bit off colour. AMD8806
In that case i'll probably just stick with a dull rusting grey bridge, just since the application for it on my own layout is the road bridge above the station.
RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted October 8, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 8, 2023 Far from it. When colleagues started going through the Civil Engineer's budget, they found Bridge Painting to be an unnecessary frippery. It emerged that this 'painting' was not prettifying, but effectively Forth Bridge stuff - to keep the weather out. It was henceforth called 'bridge proofing'. So as a rule, NSE was not spending money on pretty bridges.
