RMweb Premium melmerby Posted October 29, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 29, 2023 Hi all Bought this boxcar a few weeks ago but I have no idea what make. It's a 50 footer with what looks like swing doors, which are moulded as part of the side. I assume it's a kit but by whom?
davknigh
It's a plug door refrigerator car, Athearn Blue box kit. The identifier is the pair of boxes on the underside to the left of the door. Cheers, David 1 1

I also bought some unboxed tank cars at the same time, not particularly well built but cheap to buy, to get started in US H0.

I did question myself whether the OP's was a 50 or 57 mech but Athearn's 50' car was the only one with high ladders. Early 57' Reefers were built with them but not available commercially until the Red Caboose R-70-16. 1
U36B
The Athearn' car is based on a PFE R-70-12: http://www.railgoat.railfan.net/spcars/byclass/reefer/r070-12.htm
RMweb Premium melmerby Posted November 7, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 7, 2023 Thanks for the pictures, I can now see it is a single plug door with swing out bolts.
