Unknown Boxcar please identify.

Hi all

Bought this boxcar a few weeks ago but I have no idea what make.

It's a 50 footer with what looks like swing doors, which are moulded as part of the side.

I assume it's a kit but by whom?

It's a plug door refrigerator car, Athearn Blue box kit. The identifier is the pair of boxes on the underside to the left of the door.

Thanks for that.

I bought it unboxed at a UK show.

I also bought some unboxed tank cars at the same time, not particularly well built but cheap to buy, to get started in US H0.

That is a 57' long car, I haven't got the book handy to check at the moment but it is probably a R-70-18 and a recent repaint into UPFE with white lettering. I did question myself whether the OP's was a 50 or 57 mech but Athearn's 50' car was the only one with high ladders. Early 57' Reefers were built with them but not available commercially until the Red Caboose R-70-16.

Thanks for the pictures, I can now see it is a single plug door with swing out bolts.

Yes, I ended up buying another five S/H cars from Anglo American, some were Branchlline Trains Yardmaster+Blueprint series unmade kits🙂
