RMweb Gold Right Away Posted November 9, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 9, 2023 AE, Zen, Gaugemaster Next18 decoders. I would be interested to hear of any member’s experience of these attractively priced decoders. Essentially, the ability of the decoder to be configured for fine control at slow speed with the emphasis on really slow initial starting and stopping as per the Zimo chips. Because of the apparent difficulty in obtaining decoders from preferred manufacturers, I’m exploring the market for a suitable substitute having the above characteristics at a reasonable price. Well aware of “you get what you pay for”, however the more budget priced decoders from Lenz and Zimo continue to provide brilliant service. Thanks in advance. meatloaf
Ive used the AE decoders and found them to be pretty decent. Its a pity they dont do a plux22. They are manufaturered by DCC Concepts. I have 21 pins in Bachmann 40, Heljan 25 and a Bachmann 20. Next 18 ive only tried in an EFE J94. which runs great. The same loco with a gaugemaster ran badly. Possibly the AE is better suited to coreless motors like in the J94 Edited November 14, 2023 by meatloaf
