Bachmann & Walthers - same locomotives?

Hi all

Probably common knowledge but not to me😄

I recently purchased a Bachmann GP30 Southern Pacific #5016. Bachmann SKU is #67603  LINK

I see the same loco is in the Walthers catalogue with the same photo and SKU #160-67603  LINK

 

What's going on?

walthers are retail and distributors the model is question is manufacture by Bachmann trains and is available from walthers with the same sku with a walthers adding a manufacture code

Walthers under the Proto 2000 range also make a GP30 which is much better than the Bachmann version and older pre Walthers ownership examples can be picked up relatively cheaply.

And probably a lot more expensive than what Bachmann are flogging them off for. (£80 new)
