wdlr14mm
Has anyone got any of these yet? Can someone tell me how long each coach is?
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted December 19, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 19, 2023 (edited) The coaches are 35ft 2in over body plus about 4ft for the couplings. So will be around 245-250mm in 1/43.5 Those are two 4ft long boards. Edited December 19, 2023 by PaulRhB
RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted December 19, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 19, 2023 Sankey Scenics have now produced 7mm scale red destination boards for the Southern Railway livery coaches. I cut them out of the card sheet and fixed them using canopy glue onto the factory moulded boards which also form the inserts to the toplight windows that were infilled some time after the coaches were built. I have put LYNTON on ones side of each coach and BARNSTAPLE on the other side as I have done on my 009 coaches.
wdlr14mm
Thanks Paul. I am expecting mine to arrive January (digital versions) but have started to make plans for an exhibition layout. My initial thoughts are boards 58cm (my mates laser cutter can only cut up to 62cm) by 120 cm boards. That will give me a viewable length of 240cm. plus hidden curves at either end. Stage 2 will be to build Chelfham station Stage three the Chelfham bridge, but I am not convinced I will do that!!!

Michael Bishop
Strictly the oblong smoking signs in carriages were replaced by the circle and bar ones in the Autumn of 1934. (as confirmed by dated photographs) Unfortunately the Lionheart carriages (I assume the one you illustrate of 2470 is one of theirs) are made this way. The latter were (with strange logic) red background for Smoking and green for Non-Smoking. The circle was the same diameter, but the bar was slightly wider to accommodate the 'Non-'. Drawings from originals are in 'Measured and Drawn' - at an enhanced size on the cross-section of the carriage No 2 at York on page 30/31.
