US equivalent of Scalescenes?

Does anyone know if there’s an equivalent of the Scalescenes range for US prototype structures?

I’m considering building a US-themed small shelf layout and I wondered if I’d need to look at plastic kits or laser cut kits for any structures.

Thanks for any pointers on this.

Several. Try a Pinterest search for card buildings to get lots of images with links to the various websites. Quality is variable. Also search free card kits, you should find a site that lists many many links, the downside some of the links are now dead.

There are also some free to download  on the Illinois history site. I think that is the correct state. Been a while since I visited it.

There is, or was, another free site that has downloads for basic  Christmas village buildings.

Hope these help.

Have a look at Mauther's site which contains links to card models of all types and different quality. If you scroll down you will find links to objects categorised by scale and type on the right-hand side. The web-site is huge so don't be too disappointed if some of the links are blind. If you do find a dead link it's always worthwhile checking to see if there's a backup at https://archive.org/web/web.php

..snip..

The Papermaua/Mather’s site @MartinRS links to is the one I was thinking of.

There is a company called  modelbuildings that produce downloadable building kits - Not used them myself but the range is very extensive. Many buildings also suitable for UK layouts, especially the city and factory buildings.

Unlike scalescenes there is not a free download to try.

Took a quick look.  As you say, there appear to be a number of buildings that would not look out of place on a UK layout.  The pictures look impressive and I may just try one if I ever get the time.  Bookmarked.

The Illinois history site has been on-line, then down, then on-line again several times. I think its status was discussed here on RmWeb a couple of years ago. It looks to be down just now. The Wayback Machine link is https://web.archive.org/web/20130801000000*/https://www.illinoishistory.gov/ps/construct_mainstreet_aledo.htm

There are 3:

Clevermodels.net

scalemodelplans.com

teamtrackmodels.com

CRW

Thanks for these CRW. Much appreciated.

Team Track Models looks to be the closest equivalent to Scalescenes in terms of website presence.

It hadn’t occurred to me before but am I likely to need US Letter-sized paper to get the best from these kits? I can imagine translating to A4 might give some scaling issues?

An example of the yo-yo state of public finances in the USA?

It shouldn't matter.  Assuming the download is PDF, you can do all your scaling via that software.  I'm building Scalescenes kits in 0 gauge so I need to do a lot of scaling.

As a clarification, since I'm in Canada, I use 8.5 x 11 paper (sometimes 8.5 x 14) so some care is needed that the print doesn't exceed the paper boundary.  If the US kits are designed for 8.5 x 11, printing on A4 shouldn't present any problems.

I've just made the Double Peak Wooden Warehouse by Clever Models in HO scale and it was very easy to do. Printing on A4 it did miss off about 1mm from the right hand side but I could probably have prevented this with margin settings.

The instructions are generic though, not tailored to this specific model, and I stuck the main building onto card that was too thick so that there was a bit too much relief in the doors and windows.

You don't get a choice of signs or different finishing touches, but perfectly passable.
