NO ! ........ the dia 1/076 drawing in Don Rowland's BR Wagons book clearly shows a stretched Conflat A on a 12' wb as you describe - but those shown on https://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/conflatbafp clearly show somewhat different longer vehicles ....................... yes, I'm confuzzed !

Ah-ha - there were two designs of CONFLAT B - the later, longer ones were converted from FLAT EDs! (Mentioned in Paul's photo caption).

I have modelled both.

Curiously, Hornby did a Conflat B, loaded with a 20' Freightliner container. The upper-works were poor, but the underframe was a pretty good representation of an 8-shoe, lifting-link, type, as fitted to 21t VB minerals.

Quite clearly there are two lengths illustrated. They didn't change running number so the 12ft wb ex Pipes can be seen on some of the official photos.

Interestingly, my Newcastle contribution seems to be unmodified for its 'runner' role :

It hasn't got a gap in the body side and only 10 hooks, not 12 so is that one of the early diagrams of BR conflat A?

DB701893 : dia.1/067, Lot 2853, Ashford 1956 ......... Don Rowland lists these as having a 3' gap !

Looking more closely, I think there IS a gap - but it might be disguised by something on the wagon floor ...... something like cable troughing lids to increase the weight of the vehicle, p'raps ? ( Tare is 5-16 : what should it be ? )

As a complete aside, I was at Newcastle uni from Sept '87 and remember 03s there (in between lectures, obviously!) so could well have seen that one.

The Conflat As had several lengths of bullhead rail added to increase the weight.

I've done a couple of generic runners until something more accurate comes along.  They would be more prototypical for a North East layout but with apologies to purists they are better than nothing

There were only six 03063, 03066, 03078, 03084, 03112 and 03371(ex departmental 92) so you probably did. It was a sad day when the Class 08's took over. Newcastle was never the same.

Sorry Richard,  of course it is. For some reason quickly glanced at it and thought 80s Colchester

They must be the last ones in use Richard.  I wonder if they will fit couplers from modern units or if they will be scrapped
