The Rhaetian Railway AG and the GREEN & CHROME Foundation present: The renaissance of the green Ge 4/4 II 611 "Landquart"

With today's rollout of the green Ge 4/4 II 611 "Landquart", the Rhaetian Railway (RhB) and the GREEN & CHROME Foundation are presenting their first joint project. The Ge 4/4 II 611 "Landquart" is the first of the 10 thyristor-controlled and therefore innovative and reliable narrow-gauge high-performance locomotives that were put into operation in 1973 - 50+1 years ago. As was the case back then, the Ge 4/4 II 611 is again painted green, with raised chrome letters and the "Landquart" coat of arms. The conversion to round headlamps is technically very complex and will take place at a later date. Postponed is not cancelled.

The restoration of the Ge 4/4 II 611 "Landquart" was carried out with the utmost care and
great attention to detail by the employees of the RhB main workshop in Landquart. These employees deserve a special thank you!
The green Ge 4/4 II 611 "Landquart" has all the necessary current safety and braking systems. This means that it can be used flexibly in front of freight and passenger trains on the entire main network of the Rhaetian Railway. Its first use begins today, shortly after the rollout with the afternoon freight train 5151 from Landquart via the Albula line to the Engadin.
Where the green Ge 4/4 II 611 is used can be found in the daily updated locomotive service - of the Rhaetian Railway RhB: www.rhb.ch/.../fundus-fuer-bahnfreunde/lokdienste

This repaint was flagged on SRS facebook a few days ago. Rollout has come sooner than some expected.

It was announced November last year as part of the delayed Project Landwasser experience trains.

I think the loco looks really smart in green, especially the chrome lettering. It’s amazing to think they’re 50 years old!

It’ll be interesting to see how their other planned projects come together. Remodelling the front of a Ge 6/6 II, for example, won’t be a simple job!

For Landquart I doubt they’ll break a sweat 🤣. They scrapped the bodywork off 412 as they didn’t need it and could recreate it if required.

Yes I was referring to the actual physical repaint not the concept of preserving stuff in green - the concept was known as early as October 2021

Is there a list of 4/4iis that are being withdrawn/kept?  I'm sure I've seen one somewhere but I can't find it now.  I gather some of them have been updated and others haven't?

Cheers

621 - 633 (1984-5) are 10 years younger than 611 - 620 (1973), so its the older batch that is most at risk . Four of the 1973 batch have already been stopped (a precursor to scrapping), but 611 will not be stopped  because the green livery is not accurate on the later locos as they were delivered in red livery.

The 1973 ones without the new ZSI train protection system and dual brakes have been withdrawn as it’s not economical to fit it with so much of their work taken over by Capricorn units.
