Good morning all, hope you're all well.

Not a particularly exciting weekend ahead, hair cut etc but the added bonus of Monday off is nice and should give me some chance to catch up on sleep!

As I had a couple frees yesterday, I asked my friend to bring in his rather nice guitar in and we managed to have a 'jamming' session, at one point a member of the senior management team came in and said she was listening outside for the last 10mins and enjoyed it!

Must be doing something right!

Morning lads.....Left on my own last night to care for our two dogs whilst Guy Fawkes celebrations were going on. Thankfully it wasn't too bad and both dogs found their own little hideaway to escape the worst of the noise. I suspect Saturday will be far worse though....

Got the day to finalise the bus wiring on the layout before the 'Ampshire boys turn up in force on Saturday. Should be an enjoyable day for all. Wycrail/pub lunch and a play. What more could lads want?......Better give Sam a call.

Morning all - late finish last night followed by an early start this morning, not the best...

Lost BBC2 on the analogue telly on Wednesday, and the digital retune went pear shaped - I had to retune the box about four times to get all the channels.

Quiet weekend in prospect - probably a trip to Morrisons via the coal merchant is going to be the high spot - 'nuff said.

Morning All, I'm having a day "working" from home today. That actually means I'm spending my time doing the arithmetic and sorting out a bunch of stuff having now pushed the "let me out of here" button. I won't name the company on here though those that were of a mind would find an early day motion drafted on the parliament website raising questions over their actions.

I have to say I didn't realise that after Wycrail and the pub we were getting to play with Sam. I think I might reverse the order of events personally. By the way, can I go first as I really can't take criticism! :)

Have a good one all.

Cheers

Dave

Morning all,

I've been visiting Deliaonline trying to find a cake recipe for my wife's birthday. The birthday is today so fortunately you can search on words like fast, quick etc. Anyway something has been selected, not a traditional cake but what is supposed to be blackberry and apple tart. I'll substitute pears for apples and there must be some sort of berry fruit in the freezer.

Bonfire night was very quiet here. We set off a couple of pretty fireworks nothing at all noisy. Robbie kept trying to sneak out and join us but in the end watched from the dining room. He may have been more interested in the food going outside. Spaniels seem to be specialists in catching falling food.

That's quite some visitor to your pond Gordon and a tidy bit of camerawork to catch it. Don't tell anyone you photographed it without a schedule 1 license though will you!

I suspect it is just doing a spot of reconnaissance (spell checker corrected the previous word for me!) for the herons.

Good Monring All,

I'm soooooo glad it's Friday, I looked further into going to Wycrail but have decided not too. It's somewhere in the region of 3 1/2 hourse from portsmouth - I have to ask myself why any journey I take from Portsmouth that involves going through London takes at least 3 hours - the tube basically costs/adds an hour! unsure.gif

I hope everyone has a good weekend!

Getting the Christmas presents in en route to Morrisons? :D

Lovely photo, that second one, of the kingfisher. I think so long as you're not disturbing them you're ok to photograph them.

Brilliant pic. Gordon.

I was looking at the second Kingfisher photo and had just scrolled so only the birds feet were showing as my wife walked past. She wanted to know if my friends were now posting pictures of fences. I scrolled back so she could see the kingfisher. I think she now wants a pond for her birthday!

Morning all,

Just back from Newbury (again) Amazing how the cost of petrol/diesel varies in such a short distance - 111.9p/l to 108.9p/l in two miles. Further south down to 106.9p/l. Why always the '.9'? Another marketing ploy we'll probably never understand!

Friday - my dustbin day.

We carefully sort our rubbish into plastics/paper/garden refuse/domestic (making sure to wash any tins and jars) and fill the appropriate bags from the rolls supplied.

From here the Council collect them and throw them all into the same compactor truck.

Allegedly, Britain led the world in recycling and we still can't get it right. Now, haven't I heard that about pretty much anything else Britain has been involved with? I was caught over the coals for putting an Evergreen fertilizer bottle in with the plastics - despite the HDPE2 symbol on the bottle, they tried to tell me it was garden waste! And why can't milk bottle tops be recycled when milk bottles can - they're the same type of plastic!

Sorry, rant over!:)

Our recycling system here seems sensible and they do modify it if something seems silly. We are supposed to squash the milk bottles and replace the top to reduce volume.

My mother (who doesn't live in Essex) is worried about getting prosecuted for putting the wrong thing in the wrong bin. She felt more relaxed after seeing the bin men chucking it all (including the waste food container) in the same vehicle.

Anyway I'm off on an unplanned visit to the dentist. I thought the mouth pain I've had for a couple of days was just an inflamed gum but I think it may be a cracked tooth. I rang the dentist at 9.30 and he will see me at 10:45. It is nice to have a nice dentist within walking distance. NHS as well!

Back soon!

same with bottle banks; we sort the brown white and green bottles out for the bank but our 'kerbside' collection just throws them into the same bin!

Fangs for telling us that, Tony, hope all goes well and that it's not as bad as it's cracked up to be!:icon_redface:

Just back from the dentist clutching prescription for antibiotics and appointment for Tuesday for extraction of tooth. Now off to collect antibiotics!

BT just sent me an accelerator to add to my phone socket that is supposed to remove interference that affects ADSL. I'll fit it later after Matthew goes to college. He has a late start (2.40)as his morning subject tutor is meeting the chief examiner. The college (and students and parents) are still unhappy about the grades awarded this summer.

What is it with them dentists anyway? Been out over noon and in the meantime my dentist called to ask whether I would like to come in for a check-up some time soon. As I was not there my girlfriend took the call and when she said she wanted to make an appointment herself the receptionist promptly signed us both up. However, as I'm in the middle of my exam preparations I really have neither the time nor the inclination to have somebody fumble around in my mouth until I am done with these exams. So, I'll have to call them back and arrange for a new appointment some time after.

As I had to stop by at the library today I snapped a couple of quick photos of the paternoster lifts in the IG Farben building...

dsc022247q1w.jpg

They are usually set such that the cabins travel upwards on the left-hand side. The sign below the cabin floor says, "Capacity 2 persons. No access for handicapped persons and cargoes."

dsc022224sgr.jpg

Another sign with several pieces of advice. From top to bottom:

"The following information must be observed for reasons of safety while using the paternoster lifts:

  1. Do not use in case of fire.
  2. Two persons permitted per cabin.
  3. After entering, keep still and hold on to a handrail.
  4. Travelling through the upper and lower reverse points is not dangerous, but is within the user's responsibility.
  5. For reasons of safety, physically or visually handicapped persons are strongly discouraged from using the paternosters. Please use the normal elevators instead.
  6. Children may only enter together with adults.
  7. Transport of animals is prohibited.
  8. Transport of bulky loads is prohibited.
  9. Do not use with sports equipment.
  10. When paternoster stops, keep calm and move towards the rear wall of the cabin. Follow any advice by the staff. Do not climb out on your own risk.
  11. Push emergency stop button only in case of danger."

And the builder's plaque, according to which the paternosters are 79 years old now - not too bad.

Back on line now, thankfully the guy managed to save the stuff on my hard drive. I WILL BACK STUFF UP IN FUTURE. Cost me ??60 but some of the photos are irreplaceable - lesson learnt I think. Looking forward to a day out with the mob tomorrow, should be fun.
