The distance from the bottom of my baseboards to the bottom of the face on which it stands on the legs is 9.3cm. This gives about 1.5cm clearance underneath the connections at the bottom of the Tortoise point motors.

Before you get too far down the track with Tortoise motors, consider the Cobalt motor from DCC Concepts: http://www.dccconcepts.com/index_files/Cobalt_turnout_motor.htm

The Cobalt is only half the size of the Tortoise and is considered by many who have tried it to be a superior product.

I believe DCC Concepts are represented in the UK, but I do not know who, perhaps someone can advise.

Cobalt will be available in UK from the following specialist retailers:

Bromsgrove Models, DCCsupplies, Digitrains and Trains’n’railways as well as Gaugemaster stockists from across the UK
