Model Railway Modelling "Gaudete"

As the Advent season is about to (re)open, hopefully the wishlisting will be reasonable non-existant this year...

I find it interesting that here we are, barely a month before Christmas and there's almost no British outline, model railway frothing going on anywhere that I have noticed, either here or on other forums where frothing is regularly indulged.

It makes me think that the embarrassment of riches we have enjoyed in the last twelve months: the introduction of a City of Truro, the emerging ex-S&DJR 7F 2-8-0, the promise of a Blue Pullman and the LMS twins, not to mention all the other exciting commissions like the Sentinel 0-4-0, the 2-4-0T Beattie well tank and the IOW 0-4-4T O2 have squelched the froth this year.

If so, that's a good thing, and I for one am grateful. (I hope I'm not jinxing it by saying so!)

You may well be right, there's been a tidal wave of wishlist 'fixture' items ( plus some less likely choices ) produced or announced over the past year. I am a little curious about how Hornby are going to respond: surely they are going to want to announce something with a bit of 'wow' about it, now Bachmann have knocked off CoT, and are working on BP. But I am completely clueless about what that might be, and content to wait and see.

The future's bright, the future's overwhelmed with OO RTR models I never thought to see...

Me too...

Indeed it is!

I prefer the Alan Partridge version! This was the only Steeleye track I had heard, and I dismissed them on the strength of it. I then saw them at Cambridge Folk Festival-Maddy dancing and singing Alison Gross with the screaming guitars and fiddle. To say I was blown away is an understatement. If I could do links I'd put Alison Gross on here-I'd be grateful if someone else could.

Yes, the frothing and the foaming is subdued - and that is only a good thing in this respect... we'll get a better view of the downside over the next few months as economic measures are implemented and start to bite - there could be additional delays on the horizon for some of the recently announced new models. And with the unemployment queues set to rise, some of the spend prioirities are going to have to change... dilbert

I was just thinking that the usual tidal wave of quickly locked 'Hornby Christmas Day Annoucement' speculation/wishlist threads had yet to appear, usually we are drowning in the things by now and the sound of Mod's running around can be heard from a hundred miles away.

There seems to have been so much to discuss what with already announced forthcoming items and lots of pre-production mock ups appearing (Bachmann Class 70 and EPB's being prime examples) that any speculation on new 2011 announcements would just over egg the pudding.

Anyway I have a pretty good idea what Hornby might announce next year, no frothing for now but I will see if I am right in thirty days time.... :D

If one were to purchase just one example of all the forthcoming/promised models due out over this coming 12+ months (I'm not saying that that many of us, will do so!), just how much of our hard earned/saved would that be?

I'm guessing it would be in the order of £1000 or more!

This being the case, who could reasonably expect/demand yet more new models?

Thoughtfully yours,

John E.

PS Great music btw!

Methinks it is something that will have a very definite 'WOW!!!!' But I'm not saying what although I might have a guess when the Hornby 'what's it going to be?' frothing season opens formally ...tehehe.

In any case - Hornby apart - we already know a lot of what is going to appear over the next two years thanks to 'position taking' announcements from all sorts of retailers and manufacturers over the last few months. Big question for us I suspect is going to be whether or not all what they say they are going to offer will actually appear once belt tightening begins and sales or investment squeezes impinge on their ability to deliver.

The problem is that many of the recent releases are very specialised, eg S&DR 2-8-0, BP, Beattie well tank. As I am interested in BR/ER/Great Eastern section in steam days the L1, Westinghouse fitted, will be very welcome to help out my N7 on a quint art. I hope that Hornby will follow the same process they did with the SR, ie a number of releases apread over a few years. I am therefore looking forward to a D16/3, with valances, to replace my cut down B12 body on a Triang L1 chassis. At least the forthcoming B17 tender chassis could be used.

Roger.

Ah!! I see the first Hornby announcement speculation thread of the new season has now appeared and been locked almost as quickly as it was posted. Give it a few more days and there will be more I reckon...
