RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted December 18, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 18, 2010 Looking at my new Hornby 38xx I've noticed it has incorrect tapered buffers modelled.I can get a set of brass parallel Collett ones to replace them but how easy would the conversion be.I don't want to damage the bufferbeam and need the number changing anyway. What tool would be best to remove them ?
corax67
It can quite often be a case of "How do I keep my buffers in" - mostly the buffer, (especially the newer sprung ones, are a separate item that has been glued (to varying degrees) into the buffer beam. As you are intending to replace the fitted ones then a set of fine needle-nosed pliers will suffice to grip the buffer and some gentle waggling should see the buffer/buffer beam separate without causing damage. It is possible that you will need to retouch the paint on the buffer beam after fitting the new items.
