corax67
If you have an old mobile phone then you could strip it & use the vibrator motor.
hollywoodfoundry
Yes you could strip the phone to get the vibrator motor, or just buy one surplus. Getting the weight off the end of the shaft is quite difficult, then you have the problem of how to drive the fan. If you manage to drive it directly, it will spin so fast you will probably have an unbalance issue and you won't see the fan anyway it will be going too fast. Another possibility is to use the tiny motor found in RC model helicopters to drive the tail rotor.
RBE
Getting the weight off is pretty straight forward if your brave. You need to crush it in pliers so that to falls off of the much harder shaft. Dont pull at it as you will just damage the motors windings. I am currently looking at driving roof fans with these but as has been said they whizz around a little too fast really. Plus there is vertually no room to get then vertical below the fan in modern locos! Cav
hollywoodfoundry
I find it a little odd that modellers would bother trying to make roof fans work, since when they are running you cant see them.
RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted April 1, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 1, 2011 When Life-Like Proto 2000 introduced its HO Alco FA2 about 20 years ago, this came with a working fan - at least when the loco was moving!
