I have decided to put up a topic seperately for the layout as the blog may end up with a load of other stuff and it would be nice to keep all the layout posts together. That said, I will start by copying up the latest post from the blog. Kind of cheating really!

So be kind and hopefully you'll enjoy!

Here are a few pictures of some of the stock I have been weathering in preparation for Model Rail Scotland. Still getting the hang of the camera and some of the shots are a bit cruel but here goes!

Standard 45ft Farish box that has been treated to a mix of Railmatch acrylics that have been dry brushed on. There are 5 pairs of flats and I am currently just about half way there.

This wagon has caused the most grief to me!. Those fiddly little stanchions kept pinging all over the floor. The load is just some thick plasticard I had lying about that was cut to shape. The load still has to be weathered.

These are the Mk2s from my sleeper set. I also have done 6 Mk3 sleepers in matching livery. They are simply reliveried by using the excellent vinyls from Adam (Electra Railway Graphics). The Mk3s all started out in FGW livery so I didn't use the doors on the vinyls. These pair however had a bit more in the way of word done- repainting the roof and ends. The full set makes for a spectacular sight! Might be tempted to do another 8 soon....

A couple of Farish BYA/BRAs. Not much done to these except a bit of weathering and repainted one of the hoods in EWS maroon to represent a new cover. Part of the steel train, I hope to add a couple more wagons before Glasgow. The 60 is already on its way!

Aother part of the steel train, these OCAs have been a bit more weathered than the rest and also have loads fitted as per the BDA.

I hope to post more pics up over the next week or so.

Cheers

Eddie

Here are some pics of the actual layout itself. They are a number of weeks old and much work has taken place in the meantime. I will try and take some pics when at the club on Tuesday evening when the layout is set back up. When Model Rail Scotland is over, the layout will be returning home where I am planning to install a lot of DCC equipment ( frog juicer, points decoders etc.)

Anyway, for now, I will be switching points by the more traditional method of push buttons.

66522 enters the loop with a northbound cement train. This is the original part of the layout and only minor changes have taken place on this board.

A view of the new extension and the shed which houses the wheel lathe. The bridge over the end of the layout now carries HS3.5- a fictional line to Inverness!!

Much work has been carried out since this picture was taken. All the ballasting has been completed and the infill has also been done in the depot area.

General view looking over the depot throat and also shows the original parcels depot.

Any feedback would be great.

More soon

Looks like a nice layout Eddie. I don't know if it is the lighting in the photos but the colour of the ballast looks strange to my eyes, it's very yellowy.

Hi Kris,

It is my lack of experience with the camera! The ballast is a mix of Woodlands dark brown ballast and some larger stuff from Ikea. The lighting in my loft is pretty poor for pictures but it does look a lot better in real life- honest.

Latest pics from the layout will hopefully appear next Tuesday evening but for just now I have attached a couple more here and the rest on my blog.

The control panel is now complete. From left to right: there are a bank of LEDs for showing the aspects on the colour light signals, point switches and frog switch for the North board, then on the South board, more point and signal switches and the Depot access point.

A selection of C-Rail containers. In this shot there are 3 30ft Bulktainers in UBC red, 2 40ft P&O boxes, 1 unpainted 20ft box and 2 unbuilt Tanktainers. These will add a bit of variety to the intermodal set and the displaced Farish boxes will end up as scenery.

post-3930-0-13050100-1296773773_thumb.jpg

This is the current loco fleet as of just now but who knows how many more in time for Glasgow! From left to right: 66411 Dapol(modified to have white cab roofs), 66111 Dapol (Hattons limited edition), 66222 Dapol (weathered), 67008 Dapol(weathered), 66522 Farish(weathered), 66305 Dapol (weathered) and 60078 Farish. In the background are a couple of Dapol dummies - 66250,67026.

More pics after next visit to clubrooms.

Cheers

Just a quick picture update from last week. Mainly scenic work been done this week and a pile of wiring! Full test due Tuesday night and then iron out the glitches.

As you can see, the light at the clubroom is better than my loft so you get a better idea of colours! Probably not going to get any more pics till after ModelRail Scotland but if you are there, come up and say hello.

Cheers

Final set of pics prior to Model Rail Scotland. Still some minor touches to finish off- like straighten up the OHLE, edges of the retaining wall and a few bits of painting but these will get done once the layout set up in the SECC. Van all loaded and case packed :D

Hope to see you there!

looking good fella,

Nice to see another modern image N gauge layout.

What size drill did you use to fix your Dapol masts in place?

Cheers

Porkie

Thanks, from memory it was a 2.5mm bit which was a tight fit- I haven't used the plastic nuts due space issues underneath.

Well, thats ModelRail Scotland over for another year.

Absolutely drained after the weekend but it was worth it. The layout ran pretty well, with only a couple of glitches which were mainly operator inspired

Met loads of people who are realising the N gauge is a much more attractive proposition these days and also had a long chat with some RMwebbers- you know who you are :P

Probably going to take a small braeak from the layout for a few weeks and then I'll resume with improving the scenic side. I have plans to modify the centre part of the layout (depot area) and replace it with a small station as the depot hardly got used and a 3 platform station would be more useable.

Cheers

Hi Eddie

I'm glad to read about the successful outing of your excellent layout. Thanks for posting the photos, I look forward to seeing more soon hopefully.

If you don't mind me asking, what are the dimensions of the layout.

Jason

Hi Jason,

Layout measures 11ft 6in by 30inches wide. I am possibly going to redo the fidle yard also and make it up to the full 36 inches and thus improve the curves at each end.

Cheers

Eddie
