PenrithBeacon
Does anyone know of a source for Furness Railway transfers for buffer beam lettering/numbering? I know that Fox do the tank side letters http://www.fox-transfers.co.uk/products.cgi?categoryid=134&ordernumber=806622451710 and Model Master Decals do some of the number plates http://www.modelmasterdecals.com/MC_Furness_ONP.php, but nobody seems to do the buffer beam stuff. coachmann
I can't bring to mind what the Furness bufferbeam numbers look like, but there are a number of different size of bufferbeam numbers on the Southern Maunsell loco sheet from HMRS Transfers. Poggy1165
I've a feeling that Dragon Models (Wales) does them but unfortunately the relevant part of his website is 'under construction.' Link to Dragon website Worth asking him, anyway.

PenrithBeacon
From conversations off list, I am assured that the Furness Rly produced the numbers for buffer beams by cutting them from sheet brass which a great surprise. Hello Penrith Beacon, I'd been thinking about my post, and wondering if the brass numbers were only used on wooden buffer planks, so I've just had a look at a couple of my F.R. books. It appears that they were used on both metal and wooden beams. The numbers were also carried on the tender buffer plank, so I would presume that the same would be the case for tank locos. OzzyO. Knuckles
I just looked online but no website it seems. Do you just bang him an email? I like to see what I am buying. Also the Modelmasters link above in the Furness section shows a beautifully painted grey wall. Any ideas?
MarcD
Guild Plates are one company who need a website. They do a list that you can pick up at some shows but they are mainly down south. From a furness point of veiw their plates are listed by number not class which cam make things interesting as the numbers in the "great" Rush book dont match ones in photos. Check photos before ordering. Marc
Knuckles
I got the FR letters from Fox-Transfers and will need go look into the others mentioned for the plates but does anyone know who does plain lines as transfers suitable for Furness? I have checked the aforementioned firms and some others online to no avail. Plain black lining with a thin vermillion (red) edge either side. Based on some models I saw online and the real Furness engines that have been preserved I estimate the red lines need to be 0.1mm fat at the absolute most, so maybe the lines would be between 1 and 1.2mm's as a guess in total for width. Maybe this is time for me to try to make my own? Yet to try my own transfers. So far I have only painted the Furness engines in plain black lining but as this J1 build is going nicely I'd like go do it better.
