I have a budget of around £40 for it. My skills are not up to scratchbuilding so RTR or a kit only please. Many thanks in advance Dave
Mark 37
Is this a Clyde Puffer style of ship? As seen on this site. http://www.john-tom.com/RcShip/RCship.html You'll get a free set of drawings here. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robert.mcmanus/plans.htm Best regards, Mark
Lady_Ava_Hay
Hi all I am looking for a model boat/ship for a new layout project featuring a small harbour the type of boat/ship i am looking for is a costal freighter so far i have only found the Langley models one which at £140 is way over budget does anybody know if anything else exists in OO or HO scale. I have a budget of around £40 for it. My skills are not up to scratchbuilding so RTR or a kit only please. Many thanks in advance Dave Do bear in mind that the average coaster will be over two feet long in model form on an 00 layout. I did once find a continental style barge kit in HO scale on the Web but I am unable to find it now. Depending on when and where you are modelling, please bear in mind that there are kits for the Thames sailing barge, very common pre war between Norfolk and Southampton and that the motor coaster that replaced it was quite short lived when containerization took hold. If modelling in the Thames then the dumb barge can be produced in volume and a smallish tug will suffice. The Langley kit is the sole one available. All plans can be scaled and printed to make a card kit. If you are determined to have a certain style of motor ship then you will need to engage a ship modeller to build it for you. If it isn't going to see water or even work then this might not be so expensive but I doubt that the Langley price will be exceeded in a downward direction. You are in danger of having a model ship with a railway attached.
Stewart
Dave, I always have a soft spot for layouts with boats. The large Dutch/ German layout at Model Rail Scotland had a particularly nice harbour scene with what looked like several of the Artitec kits including the coastal freighter. They are nice kits, I've built the tug boat, but the freighter is pricey at circa £140? Help may be at hand though as I see on the Scalescenes website that one of the forthcoming card kits for 2011 is a coastal freighter. Why not post a question on the Scalescenes section of the site for more info? Regards, Stewart
Tim Hale
Revell Tug Although underscale, there were numerous plastic boat kits offered by American kit manufacturers, some are adaptable to 4mm. All are reasonably priced but require some finding. H2H DesA
scottishlocos
Hi Thanks for all the replies the scalescenes one sounds good and I should just say more about where and what i am modelling it is going to set in the early 1980's 1980 to 1984 and represents the Kirkcaldy harbour branch. The freighter that Langleys model is almost exactly like the one in a picture i have seen of an 06 shunting the harbour with a few open wagons. I started this post to ask for help if anybody knew of a European or US supplier that may have something suitable that is within budget. kind regards Dave

Pity they won't have any working locos. Hope you find a ship,

Chris Nevard
The whole Artitec rainge can be bought from here http://www.hobbyworl...?TAAL=UK&BTW=19 They're based in Holland, and I 've used them many times. Prompt delivery with reasonable postage. Even the site is in Stirling. Follow the links of the left hand side. Artitec supply Langley. Don't let the price for 'Spits' put you off, it can be bought as a kit for less than half the price a couple of pages along. It's the one seen on my Cement Quay - a doddle to build. http://www.nevardmed.../p55524546.html http://www.nevardmed.../p50901674.html It's a dash under 2 ft long
corax67
You could try having a look at the RC boat companies who do a fair range in 1/72 such as Model Slipway and their clyde puffer for £49 http://www.modelslipway.com/puffer/puffer.htm or their steam drifter http://www.modelslipway.com/drifter/drifter.htm or the St Roch by Billings Boats (pop up cheap on eBay quite regularly): http://www.billingboats.com/images/BB605%20St.%20Roch.jpg
