Horsetan
No, but I could get him that as part of his present I suppose.... although they do seem to be ??50 per copy! http://www.amazon.co...58461205&sr=8-1 I think it may be presently out of print, but look up the specialist book dealers such as Bill Hudson, Robert Humm, etc. They may have a copy or copies in stock for a bit less than 50 quid. Fat Controller
It might also be worth looking out for Robert Carroll's various articles in Model Rail, and also have a look at his Photopic site:- http://www.flickr.com/photos/robertcwp/ 'Coachman' has one of these new-fangled blogs on this forum, which has a wonderful selection of ex-LMS stock. You may have trouble distinguishing some of his models from the real thing!

You can get the book and its supplement from the publishers http://www.hmrs.org.uk/books/bookdetails.php?bookid=1030 although amazon should also have the reprints somewhere. Ideally you want M numbers for an internal LMR working but there were cross country expresses. The maroon ones sell so well though that you may have to buy whatever number is currently available. Note that crimson/cream coaches aren't as popular so are easier to find and sometimes cheaper..
bike2steam
Have you been able to get a copy of Keith Parkin's book on "BR Mk.1 Coaches" - very useful reference. Certainly is, my copy is on the 'do not lend' list. But if you dont want to go to that expense, there are s/h copies of Ian Allan abc 'British Railway Coaches' published in their 'millions' in 1958, usually for about a fiver, and always handy. Chevetter
Hmmm, looks like I might be a bit stuffed in terms of M running numbers. Are decals readily available and is it easy to re-number the coaches? I have a choice of 2 formations: Parcels Van - BSK - SK - SO - CK - BSK or Parcels Van - BSK - SK - SK - CK - BSK Thoughts? I don't know if your father has done such things before but its not the hardest bit of modelling. Bachmann only do one batch a year and the maroon ones sell out quite quickly so its normally only every 5 years you may see a lot of M numbers. Chevetter
Excellent, thanks. Fox transfers ordered. Now I just need to choose the formation...
RMweb Gold Taz Posted November 17, 2009 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 17, 2009 Either formation would be fine. One advantage of going the SO/SK route rather than 2xSK would be that they would have different running numbers. But as you may struggle to find maroon MK1s anyway you might find the decision is made for you by what is available.

Well the running numbers came in a big set with 8 different numbers for each coach type (I was rather impressed). Also, I have found a source of all the coach types. (I'll tell you what it is after I've hit the order button)

Chevetter
Please do, especially if it they are the latest batch with western numbers (my area of interest ). Ok, I've hit order. Decided on 2 x SK's as I reckon that way he can make 2 trains out of the set of coaches (SK CK BSK, SK BSK). The place which sold everything was Scalrail http://www.scalerail.com/ But also Walton's (http://shop.waltonsmodels.co.uk/) had everything but the SKs and were slightly cheaper. RMweb Gold Taz Posted November 17, 2009 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 17, 2009 Ok, just a word of warning. Did you actually phone the shop to check they had them in stock? I had a quick look on the website and the ones they had listed seemed to be for the next batch which hasn't been released yet. There may be a very good chance that these won't be in by christmas. Chevetter
My Fox transfers arrived today. You get enough transfers for: 8 x FK, CK and BSK 12 x BG 16 x SO and 20 x SK although no BCK I notice which is a model that Bachmann offer. Anyway they look good and the delivery was nice and quick, now all I need is for the rolling stock to turn up.
craigwelsh
You could chop a couple up i'd think to make something suitable for a BCK if so required.

Absolutely spot on there. This morning ScaleRail emailed me to say that they didn't have ANY of the coaches in stock! Lots and lots of places are out of stock and saying that the items won't be in until January 2010. I phoned up Walton's Models http://shop.waltonsmodels.co.uk/ - nice man, couldn't have been more helpful and really did have 2 x BSKs an SO and a CK. Their prices are excellent too (??18 per coach). The only SK I could find anywhere was at a place called 'Buffers' http://www.buffersmodelrailways.com/ so I've bought it along with a 50ft parcels van. Chevetter
One last thing: I found this list on the Bachmann website: http://www.Bachmann.co.uk/pdfs/branchline_products_by_item_no.pdf Allows you to relate the running number to the product number
