Paulb1973
On the second Class 85 picture - on the far right, is that the long-departed goods avoiding line?
RMweb Gold DaveF Posted November 19, 2009 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 19, 2009 On the second Class 85 picture - on the far right, is that the long-departed goods avoiding line? Hi Paul, Yes, it is the goods avoiding line, after the bridge was wrecked by the runaway train. It seemed to be used for storage for a while. I'm not sure if I have a photo of the damaged bridge, but I'll look sometime. I think another photo on my fotopic site shows wagons on it too. Clagmeister
You can still go down there and go towards Bog Junction and the Maryport line. cheerio Claggy
Paulb1973
Hi Paul, Yes, it is the goods avoiding line, after the bridge was wrecked by the runaway train. David I guess it was performing a storage role at the time that pic was taken. Can't help but think, grrr, as it saw the closure of an electrified rail line (albeit a short section). With about 40% of the network wired even now - quite low compared to some of our European neighbours, its the last thing we want! Any more pictures of that line would be interesting to see. RMweb Gold Russ (mines a pint) Posted November 20, 2009 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 20, 2009 Excellent! Always enjoyed trips to Carlisle as a kid, always a huge variety of stuff in the 'meeting up ' of regions sense! You can walk/cycle along some of the old 'avoiding route' now, some of overhead gantries are still there.
