RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted March 16, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 16, 2011 Evening all I got home tonight to find a strange package on the kitchen table. I've got young kids, my wife takes them to school and there's a few of the other mums that know I 'play with toy trains' for a hobby. Anyway one of them presented my wife with a package saying can your husband take a look at this and let me know what it is, if it's worth anything and how best to get rid of it.... Now to my eyes it looks like the prototype Pendolino was launched by Mr Beardy Branson at Washwood Heath depot on the 25th of November 2001 (nearly 10 years ago!). I would imagine there was a bit of a media shindig, nibbles and bubbly, but also that those VIPs attending got a take away present... that being the model in the photos below. I've had a look at it and it's marked up on the rear of the box as an 'executive gift... not for sale or use within the toy market'. The probably explains the lack of any motor and the massive flanges on the wheels! The model itself is in good condition but the outer box is slightly worn around the edges. If anyone can shed any light on the model, or has any ideas on value (have any previously come to light?) and where best to sell it them let me know. (Note I'm only asking for info as it's not mine to sell). Many thanks
Platform 6
I tracked one on eBay a few weeks ago and it fetched less than £50. - I'd try listing it without the pic of Beardie - drysmile -
Shamouti Ben Yafo
Does it come with the 4mm bearded 'Loon in the Baloon''? (As reportedly known to Virgin employees)
Horsetan
....probably explains the lack of any motor and the massive flanges on the wheels!.... Never seen these promotional packs before, interesting. I suppose they'd only be of any real interest to Virgin memorabilia collectors. I'd say stick it on eBay and let the market decide. I seem to recall there was quite a bit of demand for the powered versions - people went mad for them at the Warley show that year - and the early examples were a bit disappointing in the running quality department..... RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted March 19, 2011 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted March 19, 2011 Thanks everyone for the replies. So probably worth up to £50ish. Not sure now whether to advise eBay or the new RMwebBay, on the assumption she wants to sell it. Might also put a question in to DapolDave to see you many were made.
