roythebus
Plans just announced on the RHDR website today say that in the event of the proposed runway extension being built at Lydd Airport, the RHDR has entered into negotiations with Network Rail to extend the RHDR 15" gauge line over the trackbed of the former Dungeness Branch to provide a connection with main line services at Appledore. The 15" line would run either in the centre of the current NR lione or, where space permits, to one side. A spokesman for the airport says it will provide a cheaper option that NR providing full passenger facilities from Appledore to the airport.

RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted April 1, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 1, 2011 As it's now past 12 o clock I can no longer offer the expertise of the R & ER for such mixed gauge running. They even have the sdesigns for the 15" gauge/ standard gauge pointwork from the through running to Murthwaite. A standard gauge flask carrier pulled by two of Greenly's locos would ahve looked rather fine. Jamie

Jamie Greenly would probably have made the flask smaller than the spent fuel rods because he thought it looked better that way
roythebus
A good 'un on the KESR a few years ago when they announced "the Birdcage will be on the 12 o clock to Bodiam. The SECR Birdcage was still in C&W being rebuilt, so, with deep suspicion, various interested parties appeared expecting a test run. Then the OM wanders out with the birdcage, complete with stuffed parrott and put it in the brakevan.. B)
