church louvre windows

Recommended Posts

I'm building a model of a church in plasticard, with the church faced in Wills coarse stone.

I'm trying to work out how to model the louvre windows common in bell towers.

Or are thare any other alternative designs which might be easier to model

The louvres aren't 'windows' but are there to let out the sound of the bells - so there are gaps between them. The pics below (taken on a ringing tour in North Devon, rather coincidentally on the weekend of the Swagday at Taunton in 2009) show in greater detail how they are arranged although detail does vary a bit around the country and you should ideally have a look at a few churches in the area you are modelling to get the 'local feel'.

Many towers also have an inner slide or baffle or fully closable louvres, to reduce the volume during practice sessions and also to improve weather protection of the bell chamber.

You could therefore show closed louvres or a solid back and still remain prototypical.
