paul forrest
I have salvaged what i can from the old Boston Junction which was damaged by last years severe weather.Lucily no stock or trackwork was damaged ,but just the base boards and plasterboard ceiling. I have posted some photos of new stock and progress with the scenics.

paul forrest
The next part of the layout that requires completing is the electrics.Peco point motors are to be fitted via adaptor plates, all wiring is to be completed for DCC operation with a buzz bar feeding all sections of track on the layout which will eliminate fisplate failures and give better electrical continuity. At this moment in time i am unsure what DCC system to go for because i have been hearing of confliciting reports of th Hornby Elite and the Bachmann Dynamis system " any advice on this is most welcome" When the electrics are complete work will turn to the catenery work and all mast work will be completed as far as the station area due to the complexity of the track layout around the island platforms and adjoining running lines and sidings. Dapol type masts are to be used elsewhere in order to keep things simple but i will have to wait till Dapol introduce different mast types and wires.(photos would be welcome of ready made alternatives ) Further scenery is to be added after the caternery masts have been installed. Elsewhere on the layout i made the mistake of stating the scenery near the tunnel and found out the masts would not fit due to the overhang of rolling stock and also not being able to drill holes for the masts because the scenery was in the way. Gallows Close
Hello Paul, Your deep cutting looks like it will be very realistic once the scenics are on. I love the OLE. And who can beat such a large line up of Virgin HST's Very nice. Cheers, Chris.
RMweb Gold Donw Posted April 14, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 14, 2011 Some nice scenics. May I suggest that you go for one of the DCC specialists. Lenz, NCE or Gaugemaster Prodigy these seem to have less quirks than the ones you suggest. I opted for Lenz but if you look at the DCC questions you will see what others suggest and who seems to have problems. Don
paul forrest
I have started to paint the scenic section with base paints and left to dry.As can be seen from the photos it dosent look to bad as it is now. Flock & scatter will be added along with small peices of rock to finish it off.
Beresford Junction
Hi Paul Great progress - it's amazing what a difference a coat of paint makes. Keep it up, Cheers Phil
F-UnitMad
Have you put super-elevation ("canting"?) on those curves? It looks like it from the pictures. How did you do it? My lad has a Pendolino, and it could benefit from doing this to the track....

I opted for Lenz but if you look at the DCC questions you will see what others suggest and who seems to have problems. Quite agree - this is v good advice. Try to find a DCC-specialist dealer near you, who can let you look at a number of the available systems, rather than the system the Bachmann or Hornby rep left the local dealer to try to sell. DCC has strict formats to its outputs - but how the systems are contrived, in terms of how throttles are designed and look is down to each manufacturer, and there are huge differences in shape, size, weight & feel. You should check them out instead of trusting to luck that you can adapt to the one you bought mail-order. Your DCC system should last you for years - make sure it's one you like! Hi, as to your question of canting the track ,i layed the track on 1/16mm cork sheet as i have done for the majority of the layout but just on the inside edges of curves i layed a fine strip of foam sheet about 2mm thick and about 5mm wide .These strips are available from Hobby craft and is branded SUPA foam and this was just enough to form a slight cant on the track Regards

Gallows Close
Hello Paul, It's really coming together. Let's have a look beyond the overbridge - it seems like you have a station round that corner. I really like the Fred sitting in the headshunt too. Best wishes, Chris.

paul forrest
The station area has been totaly re-designed with all track removed to asses the damage to the base board which became aparent during the spring clean ,the damage has been unoticed from the bad weather we had early this year and thus water damage had taken its toll on the sub frames , pics to follow on work in progress. paul forrest
Due to circumstances beyond my control Boston junction is no more, all the stock has now been sold and track work recycled and stored away. May I take this opportunity to thank everyone for all the help and comments I have had in building this layout. Paul
