Also giving back to model railway clubs which keeps the shows a great time for familys and all the train enthusiasts and modellers out there for encourage ideas....

we see the show has had alot of time and effort put into it for what will be a great show.

According to the Signal Box Rochester Website...

SHOW CANCELLED BY ORGANISER

One of our club members has also advised me of this after going to Signal Box's shop today. Have checked the link to UK model directories at the beginning of the thread and they to say it is cancelled due to unforseen circumstances.

It is with regret that due to unforseen personal circumstances the Detling Model Railway show has been cancelled, as the organiser i would like to thank all those who were taking part for their support and they bear no part in the desicion to cancel the show.

Ambitious maybe, Detling model railway show will be housed in the 4,500 sq/m of indoor buildings

which for those of you are intrested is also waterproof, allthough we do have room undercover to put the full size locos ,

we have decided they will be placed on static display outside we have hopefully booked the good weather therefore will be ideal for those of you wishing to get photographs,

outside with Blackmoor Vale will be Stepney along side a few other intresting exhibits,

Detling is being supported by all the key manufacturers and traders now bosting over 44 layouts , i belive there will be something for everyone shows allways clash with other events ,

but everyone has to start somewhere, you wont know how good it is unles you go!

Website is now working and the showground have now been sent the correct links

This is not a very satisfactory answer for anyone booked to attend or who had booked themselves to come along as a punter. Surely to keep goodwill, the 'unforseen circumstances' should be explained or could it simply be that the plan was over ambitious and had insufficient financial backing?

We have discussed this show at the club and feel the organizers may have been attempting to create a 'Warley for the south' with this show. However to put it on the same weekend as Scaleforum was going to be some concern as the only traders to attend this show were box shifters and a few smaller specialist traders. We have also been informed of other things that the organizers were trying to arrange, which you have to ask why (if they were true, and I won't mention them on here).

On the downside, in recent years in Kent, we have lost exhibitions in Ashford, Orpington & Maidstone and Beckenham have reverted to a one day show, and although a show has been done in Tenterden this year, another one in Kent, possibly around the Maidstone area, would be welcome, but would suggest to anyone thinking about it to check to see what other shows are going on and when and to try and arrange away from them.

I have been told by someone who was invited to take their layout but declined, that if you were invited to appear you had to book your own accomodation and would be given an "allowance" to cover this. It would appear that a number of would be exhibitors have lost deposits to hotels as a result of this - also ads have appeared in the press so there may well be a few who turn up notrealising its been cancelled. A number of traders would appear to be in the same boat as well.

Whatever the reason for cancelling, on the whole maybe not a sad loss to railway modelling.

The exhibition manager has put on his post due to unforseen personal circumstances the show has been cancelled, therefore he doesn't have to explain himself to anyone because its personal, members who have stated "rather ambitious" "a bridge to far" or "Warley for the south" should not assume this as this is not the case.

Kev375, in the OPs original post the word personal was not included, it was added on 06 September at 2217hrs. Had it been included originally it would have explained the decison more than the original version which I cut and pasted into my post at 0634hrs that morning. Even so, the loss of goodwill and money by trade & exhibitors will be significant and probably the loss financially of the OP himself may well be significant from lost deposits etc, neither of which is a good thing.
