Steadfast
Last Saturday I headed down to Pilning for a few hours with Rods_of_Revolution We missed an early running 60099 on 6B33 due to my car being in the garage, but caught a couple of permanent way trains amongst others. 66078 on 6W08 Westbury - Cardiff Queen St with a Mullet, OCA and several Salmon in tow 66142 with 6Z12 Dollands Moor - Trostre empty steel formed of blue GE Rail Services steel hoods FGW are hiring two London Midland 153s for the summer - 153325 and 153333. Here's 153325 paired with Arriva hire in 150283 working a First Great Western train. This is the only down train to stop at Pilning. As the doors opened, who should be working this service, but JZ. Will we be seeing an RMweb on tour headboard, Julian? 66063 crawls up the gradent from the Severn Tunnel with 6W04 Cardiff Queen Street - Westbury with loaded JNA "Falcons" 66100 with empty HTAs on 4D14 Didcot Power Station - East Usk Yard On the way home we stopped at Filton Abbey Wood to get some 37 action - the sound climbing Filton bank was impressive to say the least! It's a shame the clud built up and drizzle decended, as it is still light at this time on a clear day. It's 37087+37194 on 1Z59 Plymouth Friary (and Penzance before) to Tame Bridge Parkway "Curnow Irrupter" tour Hope this is of interest to someone cheers jo
seahorse
Hi - just for the record, what times do trains stop at Pilning? Your pictures brought back memories, and I have dug out my notebook from my Bristol days. "The Usual Bristol Stuff" in " A Couple of hours at Pilning" was 9/6/69 1069, 1601, 7068, 1070, 1001, 151, 1603, 1626 11/6/69 1611, 1071, 7052, 7073, 1904, 1607, 1602, 7019, 1063, 7083, 1592 1/6/70 7051, 1069, 1756, 1613, 1662, 7042 3/6/70 1673, 1909, 1707, 821, 1593, 1920, 1584, 1031, 1951, 1755, 1658, 1608, 6879+6899, 864, 7094 10/6/70 1904, 1909, 1674, 6908+6980, 1001, 1669, 838, 1654, 1067, 810, 7071, 6607+6877, 1599 With three signalboxes in short succession ( Patchway, Pilning Junction and Pilning High Level), it seemed that as sonn as the signals were reset to On, that they were cleared again, with westbound freights using the loop. At this time the signalbox for Low Level still had its lever frame.

modfather
I'll have a look around, somewhere I have an old RTCS onne I found over the paintshop at marsh junction... I'll see what the older trimmers have got tucked away - last time I saw inside their wagon there were two wooden full size castle nameplate replicas - now with a few self tappers and a 153... RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted June 6, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 6, 2011 With three signalboxes in short succession ( Patchway, Pilning Junction and Pilning High Level), it seemed that as sonn as the signals were reset to On, that they were cleared again, with westbound freights using the loop. At this time the signalbox for Low Level still had its lever frame. You missed out Cattybrook Signal Box (still there in 1969) and of course Severn Tunnel East wasn't much further on towards the Tunnel - all very near to working block & block although the much longer block section through the Tunnel tended to spread out the Up trains and at certain times of the day back then the Tunnel was being worked at full capacity. D6975
Hi - just for the record, what times do trains stop at Pilning? Interesting, according to table 134, no trains stop at Pilning in either direction. Clearly wrong. If you use the National Rail journey planner, that fails to find any services to Pilning, as does the FGW planner, presumably because they are linked to the same erroneous version of the timetable. The morning service used to be at a reasonable time for commuting to work in central Bristol, but the return has always been at a totally useless 15.XX off TM, thus rendering the inward bound one equally so despite its sensible timing. modfather
All the vehicles are named...some wag driver has been writing them onthe fault books. My favourite was 150121 pre refurb.

The name is still on Annie. The names for some of the 143s were less polite. The Taunton ###### The Highbridge Humper The Weston W****r You get the picture.
