Should I ballast a viaduct?

Recommended Posts

Have a look at the viaduct on Geograph:

Geograph link.

- as long as its the same viaduct, ballasted!

Hello Russ /all,

I don't know if this has been replied to? Close but no cigar the one in you link is 201 and the Rannock one is 203. But I would say that the track could be ballasted. The main difference is bridge 203 has raised walk ways at the sides of the track.

OzzyO.

PS. some work is under way on the Kent viaduct near to me, the viaduct is approx 500m long and used to have longitudinal timbers and 60' bullhead track with a continuous check rails. The track is now supported on steel stools. Before the Leven viaduct was done a couple of years back it had a 30mph restriction on it after the work was done up to 60mph over it.
