Perkins04
Could someone please give me tips on how to do the building for the Rodney Stenning and Chivers Sir Haydn kits and scratch building the Perkins loco that works on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway as the permanent way trains. James
I built the Stenning kitabout fifteen years ago and it went together very well. Lovely castings and a nice etched brass cab which not only looks better but allows for a much better balanced loco. Only issue now maybe getting a suitable chassis - but this applies to both the Chivers and Stenning kits.
RJS1977
I've seen the Sir Hayden done on Dapol 14XX chassis, but even they're as rare as hen's teeth now.... I know - I've got one that needs a chassis! Best place for queries like this is NGRM.co.uk as it's a specialist narrow gauge modelling forum - run by the Chivers family! Perkins04
I'm getting two Fleshimann 0-4-0 tank engines for the chassis and I'm going to have my friend who is apparently good at modelling help me build them. Sadly I can't get the N-Drive chassis without waiting a LONG time and I have VERY bad paitence " which I don't like but the problem with the Fleshimann chassis is the modifying of the loco for them to fit . Plus I kind of made people hate me by not listening to their advice and not a lot of people want to help me there anymore . I don't like it when my stubborn side shows. By the way I have a type of autism called Assperger Syndrome so I'm somewhat hardheaded.
Sir Hadyn
I built a Chivers Sir Haydn in 1991 and it went on an Ibertren Cuckoo chassis. Lovely engine, and at 17, my pride and joy. I fitted a brass cab roof to aid weight distribution and it ran for at least 15 years on the TRPS' own "Tywyn Wharf-Tywyn Pendre" layout all over the country. Now in quiet retirement in a box until I build a layout for it and my Meridian Corris No.4. If I could build it at 17, anyone can! I reviewed the build in the 009 Society news about 1992 if you can find a copy, it was on the back cover.
Perkins04
The problem with the Fleshimann chassis is the modifying of the locos and I can't get N-Drive chassis without going nuts with impatience . My neighbour can do the editing thankfully my reading skills are REALLY good and I can build things just by looking at the pictures. I'm REALLY good at reading Japanese instructions and EXCELLENT at reading English instructions . People on the ngrm forums are saying that since I'm new I can't build kits. They having seen my building skills plus my friend can help me out since he works at a hobby shop and has been around trains for a while. I also need someone to help me with making River Esk and River Mite. All I need for Perkins is an N Scale Plymouth Diesel Shunter Loco, some plasticard, and some paint and I will have Perkins and same with Lady Wakefield but I may have to take about some Graham Farish locos to make the two steam locos. invercloy
People on the ngrm forums are saying that since I'm new I can't build kits. Not true, we said you should start with something easy and get it operating. A simple kit or modifying a ready to run loco, then progress to more complex things. but keep it simple to start with. Perkins04
I'll do both simple kit which is the Chivers Sir Haydn and the RTR Zorllin first but before EVEN the basic kit I'll start testing the ready to run engine.
James
Hello Perkins! I'm not sure what you want us to say? Sir Hadyn's talked about the Chivers kit and I've mentioned the Stenning kit - both of us were younger when we built them, Sir H was 17 and I was 12 so both are within the capabilities of a careful and determined beginner. Especially when you have members here to help you if you need it.
Perkins04
I'm open to having help with the kit building and scratch building projects but I'm going to be starting with ready to run, then kit building, and finally scratch building. I'm capable when it comes to building, I can build things just by looking at the pictures in the instructions and I am DETERMINED to build these kits and I would like help as well. When the time comes for ther Meridian Models Talyllyn and Edward Thomas I will be happy to have help. I also need some advice on scratch building Perkins. I'm also careful when it comes to building things.
