Caddy
One of the posters in the main thread about the passing of PD Hancock asked if there was a list of his past articles available. I hope the list below is of interest to some members. I realise it is not complete as my library of old magazines is only complete back to 1954 so some of his earlier articles will certainly be missing. I apologise for this and if anyone can supply this information I would be grateful. It is interesting that he wrote a few times in the mid 1950's for the old Model Railway News, otherwise everything was in the Railway Modeller. Many members have also mentioned his humour and his cartoons were absolutely brilliant, I know my father always laughed aloud when he saw them! The December 1960 article "A Happy Christmas" is a classic. I personally always loved the photo of the swans flying next to Glenmuir Viaduct. 1951 - RM 07 – Narrow Gauge Topics No 1 – General discussion & photo of CMR wagon 1952 - RM 01 – Motor vehicles for pre-grouping layouts 1952 - RM 04 – Narrow gauge track in 4mm scale 1952 - RM 11 – Photo of “Cotswold†type house 1953 - RM 01 – A layout in a month – An essay in 2mm scale 1953 - RM 03 – Cover Photo of PD Hancock at work on the CMR 1953 - RM 03 – The End of the Road – “Douglas†on the scrapheap 1953 - RM 05 – Prototype of the Month – Lasswade NBR (track plan and photos) 1953 - RM 06 – Personality Parade No.18 – P D Hancock 1953 - RM 07 – Craighill Processing Plant 1953 - RM 09 – Duncan – An unusual narrow gauge locomotive 1953 - RM 11 – Random thoughts on 4mm scale narrow gauge 1954 - RM 02 – Photo Feature – The Gleish Valley Railroad (2mm scale line) 1954 - RM 03 – Model Bashing – A freelance diesel shunter 1954 - RM 04 – The Craig and Mertonford Railway (Railway of the Month & colour photo) 1954 - RM 12 – Quintublo – A 4mm scale garden railway 1955 - RM 02 – PDH wins the 1954 R.M. halfwit
He also wrote a Railway Modeller "Shows-you-how" handbook on Scenic Modelling; A slim booklet but one full of interest. I found mine in the Welsh Highland bookshop for 50p, along with 'Buildings in Minature' by Illiffe Stokes, also 50p!
