DutyDruid
Hi Guys & Gals Was chatting to a friend the other night, he is setting out to build an SECR O1, but he wants to add a bit more detail than comes with the kit, and to upgrade some of the detailing components with better quality items. He has looked at the Mainly Trains website but it doesn't have all the answers, specific items he mentioned were smokebox dart, safety valve and whistle, plus a set of fire irons. So, $64k question, who else is there in the field of bits and pieces these days? I've always gone to Mainly Trains myself so have lost touch with what alternatives are around. RMweb Gold Taz Posted November 27, 2009 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 27, 2009 I can recommend Nick and Yvonne at Rural Railways. No web presence (unfortunately) but they have always been very helpful in sourcing anything I have ever been after. Tel:01905 841150
RMweb Gold Barry Ten Posted November 27, 2009 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 27, 2009 The thinning down of the Mainly Trains range is one of the less good things to happen to the hobby lately, I'd say. It's worth digging into the website though as they do make a smokebox dart, as one of their own products. I ordered a few not too long ago.
pete_mcfarlane
Two sources of 4mm SECR bits are South Eastern Finecast (who sell bits from their kits as spares) and Branchlines.
hayfield
I wish I had a local shop I could buy the normal parts from !! I can second the helpfullness of Southeastern Finecast, parts form their updated kits are freely available and I have used them to repair/update/detail kits (K's etc).
