railroadbill
Interesting lyrics, (van der graaf gen seems as old as a York now ). I saw 2 preserved Yorks last year, one at RAF Cosforth, one at Duxford. (The Duxford one is in Dan Air markings, like Darius's model). A couple of people I know were national servicemen and both had flown in Yorks, so were interested in seeing my pics. Apparently sitting in seats below the wings in line with the engines meant seeing flames coming out of the exhausts - and they were incredibly noisy.
railroadbill
Darius, just looked at your Avro York pictures again, it looks like you carved the fuselage from wood and then fitted plastic panels. Can I ask what wood you used, maybe it's not too critical? Seems a good technique.

More info on how it was made here Cheers Darius

I've used plastic sheet (with plastic cement) glued to wood (with PVA) which stuck well. That was on boat models, I was interested in how you'd done it. You've made a very impressive collection of models! Cheers Bill Edited September 17, 2019 by railroadbill 1
railroadbill
Just read through your build thread on the York and that is one great piece of workmanship! ps saw you used cyno glue to fix plastic to balsa, useful tip for me. 1

RMweb Gold Barry Ten Posted September 20, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 20, 2019 Lovely. I posted mine on p4 but hopefully no one will object to a second outing. It's the Revell 1/72nd one so not a patch on yours but I made it to commemorate a flying lesson I had in one, albeit in different colours. I managed to sit on it after the paint and decals were done so the wing struts on one side had to be rebuilt from scratch - ouch!

I can relate to your misadventure - my resin kit Leopard Moth had a similar mishap... Before:- After restoration:- Cheers Darius
RMweb Gold Barry Ten Posted September 20, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 20, 2019 I bet that repair job was satisfying once completed. My Stearman nearly went into the bin, but I had a stiff drink, and decided to try fixing it, and now I'm far more attached to the model than if I hadn't wrecked it in the first place. 4
