streak1
Folks hello from a new user. As the title says I bought R2830 last week and while it runs smoothly there is a lot of noise coming from the loco. Going forwards it sounds like dry motor bearings and in reverse it sounds like gears not meshing very well. Compared with the recently bought Schools its very noisey indeed. I've oiled the rear motor bearing and the intermediate shaft to no avail but I cant work out how to get at the front motor bearing. two queries please - has anyone else experienced this with this model? secondly how do I get into the gearbox area? I did try a search but found nothing. Thanks in advance for any advice/assistance
RMweb Premium 7013 Posted August 14, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 14, 2011 Welcome to RMweb Streak 1. If you cannot fix the problem without resorting to taking the loco to pieces it really is not worth it, take it back to where you bought it from or if that is not possible send it to Hornby they will normally fix it free of charge. RMweb Gold RFS Posted August 14, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 14, 2011 I have both T9 and Schools and they're extremely quiet. In fact the T9 is quieter than the Schools, probably because there's no valve gear on the T9 (at least not on the model!). I'd take it back and ask for a replacement. OldSutt
I bought a T9 a few weeks ago and was amazed how quiet it ran. So quiet that I have to check that it is running!
